Social Skills Groups & Camps
in Webster, TX
Building Confidence, Connection, and Real-World Social Skills
Some children want to connect with peers but aren’t sure how. Others struggle with turn-taking, reading social cues, managing big emotions, or working collaboratively in group settings. Social skills groups provide structured support in a setting that feels safe, engaging and fun.
At The Children’s Therapy Center, Inc., we offer therapist-led social skills groups and themed camps for families in Webster, Clear Lake, and the greater Houston area. Our goal is to help children build meaningful peer connections while strengthening the social thinking and collaboration skills they need in everyday life.
What Are Social Skills Groups?
Our Social Buddy Groups are led by licensed occupational therapists and designed around social thinking and engagement. These are not simply playgroups; they are structured, therapist-guided experiences focused on real-world social growth.
Groups are organized by age and skill level, allowing children to work with peers who are developmentally aligned. Through interactive activities, games, and guided peer experiences, children practice skills like:
- Taking turns and sharing
- Initiating and maintaining conversations
- Reading social cues
- Managing frustration and emotional responses with peers
- Problem-solving with peers
- Building confidence in group settings
- Learning to work as a team
- Developing social thinking skills
Sessions are typically offered in themed series throughout the year (fall, winter, spring, and summer) and often run for six to ten weeks. Groups usually meet once per week, with certain programs such as theater-based groups meeting more frequently.
Theater-Based Social Groups
During select seasons, we offer Theater Buddy Groups designed for older children and teens. Theater provides a natural way to practice teamwork, communication, flexibility, and shared goal-setting. Because productions require collaboration, listening, and creative problem-solving, participants build social skills in a motivating and structured environment.
Our Approach to Social Development
We believe strong social skills are built on a foundation of regulation and confidence. For many children, challenges with attention, sensory processing, or emotional control can interfere with peer interactions. Our therapists address those underlying factors while guiding children through real-life social practice.
Sessions are structured but dynamic, giving children opportunities to try new skills in a supportive setting. We provide feedback in the moment and reinforce growth over time. Parents are kept informed and supported with strategies that help carry social skills into school, extracurricular activities, and everyday routines.
Summer Camp Wahoo
In addition to our sensory and social skills groups, TCTCI offers a week-long, therapist-led, sensory-based summer camp that provides children with extended opportunities to practice social skills in a fun, safe and structured setting. Open to children ages 5 through 16, the camp is led by licensed therapists and focuses on sensory-motor needs, social development, and teamwork.
We work with kids on activities such as:
- Guided social skills practice
- Sensory motor activities
- Motor-based activities
- Creative themed craft activities
- A community-based fun event
Availability and dates vary each year, but camp is typically held in June. Please contact our office for current summer camp details and registration information.
