Sound-Based Pediatric Therapy Programs
in Webster, TX
Supporting Emotional Regulation,
Behavior, and Attention
Some children struggle with regulation, attention, anxiety, or sensory overwhelm that makes learning and participation difficult. As part of pediatric occupational therapy at The Children’s Therapy Center, Inc., sound-based programs can be incorporated to support the nervous system in a structured, research-informed way.
We offer these programs to families in Webster, Clear Lake, and the greater Houston area when they are clinically appropriate and aligned with a child’s individualized therapy plan.
Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP)
The Safe & Sound Protocol is a structured listening program used within occupational therapy to support nervous system regulation. SSP may benefit children who:
- Struggle with anxiety or emotional regulation
- Are highly sensitive to sound
- Have difficulty with social engagement
- Become easily overwhelmed
- Have difficulty with communication
- Have a history of trauma
- Sensory or oral motor feeding issues
- Difficulty with sleep
Using filtered music delivered through headphones, SSP targets the auditory system in a way that supports emotional regulation, attention, and social engagement. And as this happens, families often notice increased calmness, better focus, and improved participation in daily activities.
Rest & Restore Protocol
The Rest & Restore Protocol is designed to support nervous system balance and recovery. We use it in our occupational therapy sessions to support children who:
- Experience chronic stress or heightened arousal
- Have difficulty winding down or sleeping
- Struggle with persistent tension or overwhelm
This protocol uses calming auditory input to promote relaxation and resilience, and strengthen mind and body connection. The goal is to help the body move toward a more regulated and restorative state where learning can happen.
Integrated Listening System (iLs)
The Integrated Listening System combines structured music listening with movement-based occupational therapy activities. iLs may benefit children who:
- Have attention and focus challenges
- Struggle with processing spoken information
- Experience motor coordination difficulties
- Show sensory processing differences
- Have difficulty with optimal performance
- Struggle with read and language processing
This program is designed to support auditory processing, attention, coordination, and overall sensory integration. By pairing sound with movement, iLs helps strengthen the connection between listening, regulation, and motor skills. This can also be done as a home program.
Is a Sound-Based Therapy Program Right for Your Child?
Not every child needs a sound-based intervention. These programs are used within occupational therapy when appropriate and recommended based on a child’s individual evaluation and our therapists’ clinical judgment.
